The Phonak Virto is available in three different guises – the highest technology level is the Virto Q90, the mid level is the Virto Q70 and the entry level is the Virto Q50. Within each technology level there are four different product formats ranging from the smallest Nano to the full shell Q13. So in total the Phonak Virto is a range of twelve different products, therefore careful consideration should be given to which one may be right for you.
Within the four product formats, it should be easy to simply say that with hearing aids it is the smaller the better but that is not always the case. The smaller products do not always have the power and functionality of the larger one so ensure that you clearly understand what you may be sacrificing for the more discrete models. There is an additional consideration that the smallest product the Nano, is very small and if you have any limitations of dexterity with your fingers this may be difficult to insert, extract and change batteries.
The technology level for you also needs some analysis. The Virto Q50 has a basic suite of sound processing algorithms including background noise suppression and feedback cancellation but it definitely lacks some of the more sophisticated features that combine to deliver a fuller, richer sound of the Q70 and Q90.
The Q50 level has three manual and three streamer programs which should be adequate for most users but if more are required the Q70 has four of each and the Q90 five.
There are some shared elements such as the QUEST platform which is the chipset that drives all the models regardless of technology level and this should ensure that the Q50 while it may not have all the bells and whistles of its more expensive cousins will still be a very good product capable of providing amplification and considerable benefit to most users.
In summary, we think that the Virto Q50 is an extremely competent product and well worth further discussion with a qualified professional, however always bear in mind that there are more options available in the higher technology levels.
