- Cros or BiCros using Phonak BTE

- Uses wireless sound transmission
A Cros system is used to transfer the sound that is received by one ear to the other ear. They are beneficial for those people who have little or no hearing in one ear but good residual hearing in the other ear. If they have hearing impairment in both ears but one is significantly worse than the other (typically beyond help with a hearing aid) a system can still be used where the sound is transferred to the better ear where it is amplified through a hearing aid. This system is known as a BiCros.
Phonak offer two different types of Cros system using an ITE or as described on this page with a BTE (behind the ear) case. The BTE case is available as a standard case or for those with a particularly active lifestyle it can be specified as an M H2O model – the benefit of which is that it is water resistant and therefore much less likely to be affected by sweat or rain.
If the good ear is to be aided the Phonak Cros BTE can be paired with any of the Phonak hearing aids that use the SPICE platform so there is a huge array for you to choose from. The result could be perceiving sound from your "dead" ear and a considerable improvement in the sound volume and intelligibility from your "good" ear.
Finally, as the system is powered by Phonak’s wireless devices, the system is compatible not only with Phonak’s accessory suite but given correct compatibility can also be linked to a number of household devices such as mobile phones, television or MP3 players.
In summary, many people who think that all is lost and suffer life with a dead ear may re-consider as there is considerable hearing benefit to be gained from the Phonak Cros system.
