Finding an amplified phone that isn’t dependent upon mains electricity can be a challenge. After all, it’s not surprising that the power you need for the greater amplification means that there are often more mains operated phones to choose from. This is all well and good, but if you don’t have a plug near your phone socket it can leave you in a bit of a quandary.
The fact is there are phones out there that will operate without mains supply, so don’t go calling the electrician quite yet! Here’s just a selection for you to consider – perfect for anyone with a hearing loss classed as mild or moderate.
Amplicom PowerTel 30 Plus Big Button Desk Phone
Amplicomms, a leading manufacturer in the production of communications equipment for the hearing impaired has created an amplified phone that doesn’t need a mains supply. Designed specifically for those with a mild to moderate degree of hearing loss, the Amplicom PowerTel 30 plus offers incoming voice amplification of up to 30dB. Given that an ordinary phone offers approximately 8-10dB, this is a loud phone. You have the option of listening via a speakerphone or by putting the handset to your ear.
You don’t need an additional power source as it operates using the phone line only. It’s great to know that in the event of a power cut, you can still make a call.
The phone is fully compatible with BT phone lines and can be used with hearing aids where the telecoil settings are activated.
The ringer volume and tone of the phone can be adjusted to suite you. The buttons are large, for those whose fingers are not as dextrous as they used to be and there’s a caller ID display screen, so you can see who’s calling you. Quite simply this is a loud phone at a great price.
The Geemarc Dallas 10 Big Button Desk Telephone
If you’re restricted by budget and don’t require too much additional amplification, then the Geemarc Dallas 10 might be a consideration. This particular phone again doesn’t require mains electricity to operate.
It’s certainly not the most amplified phone on the market, but for those that just want a bit of an extra boost it’ll be fine. It kicks out 15dB of sound as opposed to a regular phone that offers approximately 8dB.
This phone has big buttons, for easy dialling. It’s compatible with hearing aids that have telecoil settings as well as BT landlines. The Geemarc Dallas even offers an extra bright visual indicator, to ensure you don’t miss the phone ring.
Geemarc PhotoPhone 100
The Geemarc PhotoPhone 100 is an extra loud phone-offering photo ID for up to eight people - you can insert the photos of the people whose numbers you’re saving to these 8 pre-set buttons. It comes with big buttons, making dialling other numbers easy too. It’s also simple to use and doesn’t require mains electricity to operate.
The receiver volume can extend up to 30dB, as opposed to a regular phone where the output is approximately 8dB. This is super loud and as such can be adjusted to suite your individual needs. There’s also a visual ringer indicator to ensure you don’t miss a call and a tone selector that can be altered to suite your needs.
Geemarc CL1100 Amplified Desk Telephone
The Geemarc CL100 is a loud phone that is fully compatible with hearing aids that have a telecoil facility. It can provide an incoming voice volume of 30dB, offering plenty of amplification when you’re chatting on the phone. The tone and ringer volume are adjustable, according to your hearing loss. There’s also a visual indicator that flashes when the phone is ringing, so there’s no need to miss a call. As with the others listed here, it doesn’t need mains electricity to operate and is suitable for those with a mild to moderate hearing loss.
The Geemarc CL1200 Amplified Desk Telephone
If you’re looking for a stylish, contemporary phone with easy to use keypad and great amplification, then the Geemarc CL1200 is worth a closer look. With a receiver volume of 30dB it makes listening to a phone conversation so much easier. It also comes with tone control so you can adjust it according to your hearing requirements.
With a visual ringer indicator that flashes when you receive an incoming call, it also offers 3 emergency buttons and 12 direct dial memory slots. Suitable for those with a mild to moderate hearing loss, it is compatible with all BT phone lines. As per all the others, it doesn’t need mains electricity to operate, which is great news if your telephone line is positioned away from your plug sockets.
