VAT_Reclaim.gifThe Amplicomms PowerTel 30 is manufactured by Amplicomms, a company dedicated to providing communication solutions to the hearing impaired. Unlike many phone manufacturers who build standard phones and add a degree of amplification, Amplicomms phones are designed from the outset with hearing impairment in mind. HearingDirect only stocks phones from manufacturers committed to the provision of amplified products.

The PowerTel 30 has quickly become one of our best sellers. It is designed for those with a mild to moderate degree of hearing loss providing incoming speech amplification of 30dB. To put this in context a "standard" telephone would provide approximately 8 – 10dB. The incoming speech can be listened to through the handset or via a speakerphone function which is popular for those using hearing aids.

The PowerTel 30 is fully-featured (see list below) and it is easily set up as it requires no additional power source. This ensures that in the event of a power cut you will still be able to make and receive calls.

A good quality, entry-level desk phone recommended by HearingDirect.

Review by David Restall (Posted on 03/12/2015)
The 'phone sort of works for my mam and she does communicate better with it than she did with her previous powered speakerphone but she's a reluctant hearing aid user and the speaker is just about powerful enough for her. It is much weaker than her previous BT mains powered speakerphone. The service from Hearingdirect was excellent, the price was competitive and the delivery spot on. Moving on to the phone :- The Good ======= Aesthetics - nice big buttons - easy to read. The sound clarity is good and there is very little background hiss or hum on a quiet line. It doesn't need to be plugged in to the mains. It doesn't need batteries (also a a minus). The handset works well with a hearing aid in T position. Good ringer volume. Has a flashing LED to indicate incoming call. Speaker is clear but volume is lower than expected - even on max. The Bad ====== The display is difficult to read - it should be backlit. Even with batteries installed there is no backlight - an intermittent backlight lit up for 10-20 seconds would be good. People with poor eyesight will struggle to read the display. Display contrast doesn't make a big difference to legibility. It misses an answering machine function - you need 1571 enabling on your line if this is going to be your only phone. It needs batteries to back it up - if you disconnect it from the phone line, it will lose some of its data unless you have batteries in it. This seems to be the only reason why it needs batteries - they don't boost the speaker and they don't provide power for a display backlight. In reality a CR2032 coin cell could do that instead of 4xAA batteries. It's not as loud as expected - the +30db button is for the handset - it doesn't increase the output to the speaker. The Ugly ======= It isn't :-)

I was looking for a phone with a good volume, not because I have hearing problems but my mum and I were having problems hearing people speak on standard phones. I chose the PowerTel 30 because it is 3-4 times louder than standard and I wasn't disappointed. A lovely looking phone with good volume both with the handset and on the speaker. Nice ring tone. I can boost the caller volume as well, so this should last me into my old age!

This is the only phone (or self standing...

Review by Dodger (Posted on 24/02/2014)
This is the only phone (or self standing caller display gizmos) of it's kind in existence. What I mean by that is it requires no batteries or electric socket power. Considering all it's amazing functions run of the telephone line power this is an amazing feat by Amplicommms PowerTel 30. Trust me I spent days looking for a wall mountable, power supply free, Caller display, corded home phone. Every other phone or gizmo for caller display out there needs batteries and/or power supply. You have to make a sacrifice with there being no back lit screen and the caller display harder to read but in the event of a power cut you know your phone will still work for emergencies. The wall mount was simple as my old phone was hung on a simple screw in the wall and the Amplicomms just slotted on the same screw. Once you have filled up the 32 name phone book, when someone rings it displays there number and also there name. Also they are stored alphabetically so for quick access using the phones keys. Not all caller display phones/gizmos do this and only display the number. Others eat through batteries like there's no tomorrow. The ringer has 2 settings, really loud or low. The low is a bit shrill so I dampened this down by sticking a sticker over the ringer speaker on the rear of the phone. If your after something more stylish the Doro Comfort 3000 Extra Loud Phone is better looking but again that would require batteries as the screen is back lit (so probably eats batteries quick). If you like the features of this phone try the next model up the Amplicomms PowerTel 49 comes with back lit buttons and caller display (comes with power supply). PRO's- 1.Only phone/caller display gizmo of it's kind as it requires no batteries or power supply. 2.Biggest caller display screen out there 3.Caller display displays name as well as number of incoming call (some phones only show number) 4.Considering it runs from telephone socket for power you can turn the ear piece on the handset up quite loud. 5.Wall mountable (corded wall mountable phones are rare these days). 6.Big buttons (there pretty solid and well made) 7.Hearing aid compatible and amplification to 30db via 0-9 volume button and db boost button. CONS- 1.Won't win any awards for design (only silver why not black or white) and from the side looks like a cheap plastic China import (but the headset part and buttons are solid (and the lcd screen is the biggest available) and the phone is a good deal for the £28 price). 2.Caller display is hard to read at night unless you shine a torch on the screen (I except this compromise for having no power supply or battery hassles). 3.Ringer volume fairly shrill on low setting (easily fixed via sticker on ringer speaker rear of phone) 4.Every time someone rings there's an annoying flashing red light top right of phone that carries on flashing unless you push some buttons (this light should have a on/off switch). If it gets to annoying stick on some black duct tape over the light.

I would give you 5/5 for service. I was very impressed with the product and service provided. My father is now using the phone for the first time in years. My mother, however, has heart failure every time it rings as it is so loud! They will eventually work out how to change the volume...............
