Whale song, amongst other sound therapies, can form part of an approach to help manage Tinnitus symptoms. Tinnitus can be an involved and individual issue to manage and no ‘magic wand’ treatment exists. However, one of the most commonly used management strategies is ‘sound therapy’ - the deliberate use of sound to reduce the perception or awareness of tinnitus or alleviate the distress associated with it.
The overall aim is to provide something else for the brain to hear rather than constant tinnitus. The relaxation element, particularly at night, is key for many tinnitus sufferers, and soothing sounds of nature may certainly help some individuals.

Kamal, winner of Australia's prestigious Dolphin Award for musical excellence, masterfully pairs flute and soft synthesizer with recordings of humpback whales in this album designed specifically for Reiki, meditation, massage or relaxation.

'The whales travel down the east coast of Australia in September taking their calves from their warm birthplaces to the rich feeding grounds of Antarctica. From the beaches of Byron Bay and the landmark lighthouse, I can watch them blowing off from their breathing holes and occasionally breaching. One morning I dove into the water and heard the strange callings of the whales as if I were swimming right next to them. I was mesmerised and could have stayed under the water forever - floating, relaxing and listening to the songs the whales were singing. Coming out of the water, I felt elated and rejuvenated.
When Waduda from New Earth Records suggested incorporating whale songs in the music for Reiki, I was reminded of this experience. I immediately saw that the enchanting, soothing and yearning quality of whale 'vocalising' would be perfect to create a relaxing and calming acoustic environment for Reiki. What unfolded was a spontaneous interplay between the calls of the whales and the instruments. A dialogue between the most intuitive human expression - music - and the ancient songs of the giants of the sea.' Kamal, Byron Bay, Australia
