The Agil Pro and its sister product range the Agil are mid range products from Oticon, one of the big three Danish hearing aid manufacturers. As one would expect the Agil Pro shares most of its heritage with the Agil; so what are the incremental features that can be found in this slightly more expensive version and would one experience that difference?
Based upon Oticon’s product overview, the Agil Pro has the following additional features; Binaural Processing and Binaural Synchronisation, Spatial Noise Management and the My Voice algorithm. It is not a great deal better than the Agil but to be fair to Oticon neither is there a very great price differential. What Oticon have done is to expand the customer choice on a very competent hearing aid and they should be applauded for this. Many hearing systems are over-specified as manufacturers continue to add more and more driven by R&D outputs. This is wonderful when the result is a tangible benefit to the end consumer but some functions have limited appeal. By positioning the Agil and Agil Pro so closely together, Oticon has passed choice down the chain to empower the consumer.
If you think that the Oticon Agil or Agil Pro may be the right system for you or if a professional hearing aid audiologist recommends it is the optimum solution for your loss and your needs, then try to recall the four algorithms that form the difference. Focus on these areas and in conjunction with the professionals see what they will do for you.
In addition to those features mentioned the Agil Pro has the Connect + system that enables Bluetooth connection to a wide variety of compatible devices. If this is an area that may be of benefit to you, enquire further about Oticon’s range of accessory for the Agil range. They offer the ConnectLine streamer that, in combination with the hearing aids, enables easy connection to household devices such as your television, your mobile or even landline phone, and devices such as MP3 players. In today’s hi-tech world the ability to link your devices directly to enabled systems is a real boon.
In summary, the Agil Pro is marginally better than the Agil. It’s also marginally more expensive so Oticon is offering a broad choice to the end user based upon their environments and listening needs.
